1. Choose winning slots with the highest payouts
When you go online to play and win money at slots, you need to know how to pick the right slot machine games.
Most beginners start to play casino games thinking that all slots are more or less the same thing, only with different graphics.
If you want to know how to win at slots, you need a machine that pays out more than the other ones. And to know which one is an excellent slot to play, you need to care about the return to player (RTP) percentage.
The return to player (or RTP) is a percentage of all the wagered money that a slot pays back to its players.
It is not the amount of money you'll get back when you wager on real money slots, and it doesn't indicate whether you have fewer chances to hit a bonus round or not — but it gives you a great indication on whether a machine pays enough for you to play on it or not.
How to find the RTP of a slot machine
The quickest option is to search for it online.
Use google, bing, yandex, or whichever search engine you prefer.
Many casino news websites that publish content around casino games have entire sections dedicated to the RTP percentage of the casino slot games they review.
You find them on pokernews, as well. Every review includes a section dedicated to the payout of each type of slot with easy-to-understand info about the games with frequent payouts.
If this is your first time on our site, check some related articles like these list of games. By choosing slots with a high RTP, you'll improve your chances instantly.
Also, you check the slot itself. The RTP number is always mentioned somewhere. Usually, you find it in the settings of the slot game or the 'help' section.
So, how to pick a winning slot machine and how to use the RTP to know how much slot machines pay?
The RTP is calculated on a scale from 1 to 100. Most slots have an RTP between 92-97 per cent.
Always choose an online slot machine game with an RTP of 96 per cent or above. This is the best slots strategy to follow every time you play — since a high payback percentage indicates that you have a better chance to win. Good option.
High RTP slot to play: devil's delight
Devil's delight is a slot by netent that's set in the underworld.
It features everything you'd associate with hell:
- Devils
- Soul reapers
- Graves
- The number 666
- Pitchforks
- Skeletons
- Flames
Is anything missing from the list?
The slot also features a separate soul reaper bonus game. There, you need to guess the sins of the characters on the screen. Every time you guess the right one — you receive points that help you win more cash.
This loose video slot has five reels and 20 paylines. And despite the sinful name, devil's delight is generous – RTP in this game reaches 97,6 per cent!
2. Determine the volatility of slots
Another critical factor to consider to pick a winning slot machine is the game's volatility.
Many games and gambling news sites refer to the games' volatility as their 'variance.' if you like, you can consider this as the risk level.
The volatility of a slot machine game measures the risk involved in playing a particular slot for the real money. One of my favourite tips for playing slots is to consider it the 'risk factor' of the game you are about to play. That's because volatility determines how you win at slots.
- Low volatility slots: your odds of winning at these slots are high, and it's easier to strike winning combinations when you spin the reels. However, you should know that low volatility slots offer smaller wins — so your winning combinations might not be worth as much as you would like them to.
- High volatility slots: the odds of winning at these games are smaller, but the wins pay more. With the right bankroll, tips for playing slots, and strategy, these games can be a lot more rewarding.
Both options are quite popular online since people play both types. Every useful casino guide gives you plenty of choices to find the right online slots game for you — with welcome bonus codes to try them for free before you invest your money in them.
Pick the slot machine time that feels right for you. But keep this in mind:
To play high volatility slots, you need to be patient, have enough money to invest in a lengthy online gaming session, and have read enough casino blog posts to know all the secrets of slots optimal play.
Otherwise, low volatility slots may be a better option for you.
High volatility slots are a bit riskier, too. You never know how much time and money you need to invest in hitting a lucky spin and celebrating yet another day of winning money on slots.
How to find the volatility of a slot machine game
Casino sites don't make the variance of the games as accessible as the RTP numbers — and that's in part because they don't want to help you improve your odds.
An easy way to choose games with the right variance is to use "google operators and let the world's largest search engine do the work for you.
You have seen some progressive slots with random jackpots, and the mega moolah game caught your eye. The most effective way to find the variance of this game is to:
- Open www.Google.Com
- Type "mega moolah" variance in the search bar
- Analyse the search results
Alternatively, you can explore the games and try to figure out their variance yourself. If you play the slot long enough, you should be able to see how often the game pays out and what kind of winnings you get.
If successes are rare but significant, you are onto a high volatility game. If you win often, but the wins are nerve-wracking and small, you just found a low-volatility game.
An excellent welcome bonus, a deposit bonus, and free spins are an excellent way to do this and discover the games' volatility by playing. These options help you learn more about the games and give you useful info that might help you understand how to win at slots in the long run.
High volatility slot to play: king of atlantis
King of atlantis is a high volatility slot by IGT. The game plays on five reels and 40 paylines.
The symbols featured in this game include seashells, gold rings, gem-encrusted crowns, mermaids, dolphins, and the almighty god of the sea – poseidon.
This high volatility slot machine doesn't have many bonus games or features (even if you bet the maximum). The only 'special feature' you get, is a round of eight free spins that activates when a trident symbol lands next to poseidon.
Low volatility slot to try: hotline
Hotline is one of netent's most popular slots these days.
Beating the slot requires you to travel back in time to the '80s, wear some clothes you'd not be proud of today, and use your ability to solve a police case. Somehow based on the cult TV series miami vice, beating the slot needs you to help two detectives to catch a jewellery thief.
The slot runs on a classic random number generator and features all the classic features netent players love so much. Wilds, expanding wilds, re-spins, free spins - you name it. Also, there is a unique bonus bet where you can choose one, two, or all three reels. It increases your chances of getting expanding wilds.
As pay table of this slot suggests, hotline is a low volatility game where wins are more frequent (but small in size). If this is what you are looking for, pick this slot machine, enjoy the game, and relax.
3. Don't go with the obvious option
No matter how impressive an online casino is, you need to do some research before you start to spin reels on slots.
All casino sites (like all poker sites, let's face it) want your credit card and your money. They offer free spins or deposit bonus codes to get you on their platform and then have you play as much as possible. In other words, they want your money.
If you can afford to play real money on slots, that's great, as long as the site you agree to play on and where you look for the next loose machine to try is a legitimate and regulated online casino.
Regulators like the united kingdom gambling commission (UKGC), the malta gaming authority (MGA) work hard to eliminate dangerous companies from the online gambling industry. Their licensing systems are your best allies to be sure to play slot machine games on legitimate sites, use audited random number generators, and pay out winnings to the players.
An important factor to consider when you want to know how to pick a winning slot machine is to see if the site you wish to register on holds a license by the UKGC and/or the MGA. Regardless of the casino bonus they offer you or the insane fixed maximum amount of free spins they promise.
You should never play online poker or pick slot machines on unlicensed casino sites.
You find a full list of all the online casinos allowed in your country on this page.
A loose slot to play: himalayas: roof of the world
How did I find this slot? I scrolled down to the bottom of the slots page at one of my favourite online casinos. And then, I just decided to pick a slot machine I had never seen before.
Not all games make it to online casinos' front pages — especially those that have a combination of volatility and RTP that plays in favour of the players and that come from underdog developers. And himalayas: roof of the world comes from barcrest, a provider that isn't often in the spotlight.
Also, himalayas: roof of the world offers good odds of winning on slots!. The game features an RTP of 97,75 per cent, which is above average. Combine that to medium volatility — and you know how to pick a winning slot machine.
4. Make higher bets
Every collection of slot machines tips or casino strategies tells you that you can't win a progressive jackpot with a minimum bet. And that's correct.
Top wins are always connected to the fixed maximum bets. You can forget your dream to become a multi-millionaire with just 0.01. In slots, like in video poker, the higher the bet — the more you can win. And, at the same time, the smaller the bet. The smaller the wins.
So, yes: your bet determines how to win at slots.
Slot machine payouts are proportional to what you wager in the game. If your slot machine strategy is to play small bets, don't change it. Just don't expect to score unreasonably huge wins.
As you understand now, betting more money helps to win more on line slots. But it also put your slot machine strategy in danger and makes you risk to lose all your bankroll much faster.
That's why higher denomination slots are also riskier than lower denomination slots. People play them in the same way and following the same slot tips. But the big wins happen only on the high denomination slots, which are also the game where you can risk to lose a lot of money.
Keep in mind this, especially if you love playing slots with progressive jackpots. Jackpot slots can be costly . Many games give you access to the top wins only when you bet the maximum — and that is why a correct slot strategy and bankroll strategy are essential to winning at slots.
Risk is always an essential factor in gambling. And you decide how risky you want to play yourself. Never play more money than you can afford to lose and never underestimate the risks of gambling addiction — even then you play fun slot machine games.
One expensive slot to play with maximum bets: space wars
Space wars is another online slot by netent. This online game is based on a popular slot you can play in all the casinos in las vegas and atlantic city.
When you play space wars for real money, you can choose to bet anywhere from 0.4 (minimum bet) to 20 (maximum bet) per spin. The currency depends on your location.
This game does not feature a progressive jackpot, so you don't really need to bet max every time you spin. Start with smaller bets and go up. You'll see the difference in payouts.
Space wars is a fast-paced video slot with five reels, four rows, and 40 paylines. The RTP is 96,8 per cent.
5. Trust other players
This is one of those slot tips that you should not apply to many other casino games. While it may be valid for video poker, it's one you should not follow if you play online poker.
But when it comes to playing slots. Yes, you can trust your fellow slot players and look how people play.
If a slot doesn't pay, the other players will call it out. Fast.
That's why you should use the information available on every casino blog and casino sites to your advantage. Browse through forums, spend some time on reddit, and read what las vegas and atlantic city players say about each game.
You can also join facebook groups and ask for help there. In other words, take advantage of your internet connection before the casino takes advantage of you.
A classic slot people play and love: gonzo's quest
Released in 2010, gonzo's quest still didn't let go of its place as one of the top slot machines online. That's quite an achievement, I'd say.
This popular slot game features five reels, 20 paylines, and an adventurer (gonzalo 'gonzo' pizzarro) looking for the lost city of gold.
Players love this little guy and follow his adventures. Gonzo's quest is one of the top-rated slot machines of all time by players, casinos, and casino critics alike.
6. Avoid branded slots
Branded slots are fantastic to play. We can play with all our favourite heroes and spin the reels feeling part of the movies, TV series, and shows we love.
While these games are a lot of fun, branded slots are also the 'bait' a lot of online casinos use to attract us, the players.
Remember the point about 'not going for the obvious choice'? If you are a huge game of thrones fan, how likely is it that you would go straight for the game of thrones games when you see them on the list?
You don't need to be a psychologist, a consumed marketer, or casino operator to realise that. Fortunately, you don't need to be a hardcore gambler to know how to pick a winning slot machine either. That's what this article is for!
Developers with slots that feature popular brands paid a pretty penny to use the name. So, they won't let you go low with the bets. And those games will not be the easiest ones to beat either.
While the casino and the developer have invested a lot on the names you see on the screen, you are the one who can make it worth the investment. Or not.
Slot to play instead of the branded ones: pamplona
What's so attractive about branded slots? Well-known name and faces. The stories behind the games and the characters we all know and love.
Can you have all that in a non-branded slot?
Take the pamplona slot machine, for example.
This IGT slot is all about spain, bulls, and matadors. A unique tradition turned into an exciting slot game.
In a way, it is a 'brand' because pamplona's running of the bulls' festival is known worldwide. And it's more known than some actual brands, to be honest.
But to use this theme, developers didn't have to pay as they do for the brands. Thus, the payouts are way better.
The slot has five reels and 1024 paylines. Matador symbol acts as a wild and bull is a scatter. Three scatters can trigger the el toro bonus where you can choose your option of free spins.
7. Take advantage of free spins
How to win at slots with free spins when there are hundreds of hidden terms and conditions for withdrawals?
The wagering requirements can take the fun out of playing slots with free spins. No arguing there. But there are still free spins bonuses that can be worth your while.
The wager-free bonus offers.
On a limited number of online casinos you get wager free spins with no deposit on registration (yes, no deposit is required to play). And with no strings attached to them.
There is no cap on winnings, you can cash out anything you want, anytime you want, and there are no wagering requirements. How good is that?
Slot to play with free spins: pyramid quest for immortality
From pamplona to egypt. You can travel the world with slots. And the right free spins welcome bonus!
The pyramid: quest for immortality slot features five reels, 720 paylines, and an RTP of 96.4%. This game takes you to ancient egypt and brings you to explore the hidden and mystical world of pharaohs, gods. And pyramids, of course.
So, how to beat slot machines?
First and foremost, the best way to beat the slots is not to continue asking the wrong questions and stop looking for simple hacks or slots tips tho beat the casino.
If you want better odds to win on slots, you need to:
- Choose the slots that have high payouts
- Choose the slots with the correct volatility level
- Choose the slot with the highest return to player
- Read reviews of the slots on casino sites, forum, and reddit
- Sign up to get a bonus with low wagering requirements
- Play on a licensed online casino site
While this might not be enough for you to beat slot machines and pick the winning slot machine every time you play, it will help you win more often and - more importantly - enjoy playing slots a lot more!
How do you pick a winning slot machine?
To pick a winning slot machine and get better odds to win when you spin the reels, you need to choose games that offer the right combination of betting limits, volatility, return-to-player, and wagering requirements (in case you play with a bonus).
What casino game has the best chance of winning?
In general, blackjack is the casino game with the best odds. In terms of slots, the best choice is to pick a game that offers a return-to-player over 97% like the slot devil's delight (RTP: 97.7%).
The slot machines you find on regulated casino sites are not rigged as their random number generator (RNG) is subject to frequent audits by state-owned gambling authorities. The same controls do not apply to unlicensed casinos — and that's why you should never play your games there.

Which slot machines pay the best
Once you know what to look at, picking a winning slot machine is easier than it sounds.
Every game comes with a specific set of requirements that can tell you how likely is the machine to pay. And if you can expect to win often or not.
Let me say something out loud, first:
If you are looking for secrets to win at slots every time you play, you should not gamble.
Gambling is, by nature, connected to luck more than skills. And casinos are so sophisticated that their games are un-hackable. Especially their slots.
That's not to say that you stand zero winning chances when you play slots.
To win, you need someone who can show you what to look for and how to understand what slot machines pay out the most often.
Please note that my tables refer to online slots. My list of tips increases your chances to win only if you play online.
What to look for | what not to look for |
---|---|
the return to player | the type of slot |
the volatility | the release date |
the limits | the reels |
the payouts | the symbols |
the developer | progressive slots |
Why does this work on online slots only?
It's hard to improve your chances to win real money on slots when you play at live casinos.
Whether you are in las vegas or anywhere else in the world, you might not have the time it takes to look for ways to find the appropriate info about each slot game.
Anyone who played slot games knows that finding stats about the return to player or the volatility is hard when you play real money games at brick-and-mortar casinos.
That's why online casinos are better.
You have all the time you need to browse through the info of all the online slots you see. That's the only way you can make informed decisions and increase your chance to play a slot machine and win.
How to choose a winning slot machine
Here's everything you need to consider before you decide to invest your money on a game.
Return to player (RTP): the RTP indicates the percentage the money that has been played a slot machine will pay back to slot players over time. The highest the RTP number is, the more likely you are to win at slots.
Volatility:
the volatility of an online slot machine indicates the risk connected to that specific game. This determines how much and how often a slot player can win on a slot.
- High volatility slots are games with higher risks. These online slots pay large wins but they do not do that often.
- Low volatility slots are games with lower risks. These online slots pay smaller wind but more often than high volatility ones.
Limits: these numbers indicate the minimum and maximum bets allowed on a game.
Before you start your journey to beating the slot games, make sure the limits you play are in line with your bankroll, the amount of money you can afford to gamble.
Payouts: you should always know how much you can expect to win whether you play a popular online slot or a game that someone told you is a loose machine.
The paytable of all the best online slots includes information and details on all the winning combinations.
Developers: while this won't help you to beat slot machines or to increase your chances of winning, you need to make sure you play only games developed by trusted and licensed developers.
This doesn't improve your odds to win directly, but it's your only guarantee to be on a game with a random number generator that is audited periodically by international independent authorities.
Focus only on these elements when you play real money slots. Everything else is noise that casino creates to confuse you and keep you from winning at slot machines.
Now that you know how to understand what slot machine to play, let me help you start your adventure in the world of loose slot machines online. If you want more chances to play slot machine games and win — start from these video slots.

How to tell if a slot machine is ready to pay
Remember when I said that most players don't care about winning at slots when they choose what game to play?
In a video titled "how to hack slot machines to pay out the most money", controversial youtuber kinghuman illustrates my point in an excellent fashion. While I am not sure this could be labeled as some sort of gambler's fallacy, the result is shocking:
Players are so focused on trying to find a hack to learn how to win on slot machines every time they play that they miss the obvious. They forget to use common sense.
Right as we have seen about the RTP, the secret is to let the numbers speak. Every game, like in the case of the video with the these three bally slots, have the same random number generator.
You can't guess what slot is about to pay. There are no 'hot' or 'cold' casino games. There are only:
- Stats
- Random number generators
- Skills
One who wanted to know how to tell if a slot machine is ready to pay might argue that low volatility slots that haven't paid for a few rounds are, by definition, the best slot machines to pick because they are likely to pay soon.
That's only partially correct. This idea doesn't take into account two important factors:
- Every spin is a new game and it is not connected to the previous or to the next ones;
- When the slot machine finally pays out, you might not win enough to cover your losses
There is no way you can base your strategy to pick a winning slot machine on the likelihood of a game paying a prize sooner than another. Gambling isn't about predictions and mathematical series — it is about fun and, ultimately, luck.
7 secrets to beat the slots
You are ready to play the slot you had your eyes on for so long, you know what to expect. You also know how to look for key elements like the RTP and the payback percentage. But you are still not sure you possess an effective slots strategy to win.
That's why you need a casino guide like this one and these seven slots secrets.
1. Slots bonuses
Get a good casino bonus to start. That's always a good idea. When you decide to play for real money, you don't need to invest too much cash to try some games and have fun online.
With the right casino bonus, you can play 3D slots on great casino sites with a lot of extra money and free spins.
And if you don't have any luck with slots, you can always use the bonus money to play roulette, play blackjack, or try other games with higher odds of winning like video poker.
2. Look for new bonus codes
Don't stop at the welcome bonus — that's just the beginning.
One of the most effective slot machine strategies every seasoned slot player knows consists of continuously hunting for new bonuses.
All the top online casino sites offer multiple bonuses to their players, so you'll never be short of freebies.
After you invest more than €50 in real money slots, contact the casino support.
Once you start to look like a big spender, they will be open to giving you exclusive offers to keep you playing the games you prefer!
3. The wagering requirements
Never accept a casino bonus if the wagering requirements are not clear. The united gambling commission (UKGC) require all UK casinos to state the terms and conditions (incl. The wagering requirements) of each promotion and casino bonus they offer to players.
Unfortunately, not all online casinos do that.
The wagering requirements matter because they indicate how easy/difficult is going to be to withdraw your winnings from the platform. As a general rule, remember this: the lower the requirements are, the better.
And when you find a casino bonus with no wagering requirements like this one. Grab it and play!
4. Avoid the progressive slots
This is one of those slot secrets that could save you a lot of money.
You would love to win at slots and take home a six-figure jackpot. It's understandable. But you might run of money before that happens.
Not only progressive jackpots like to play hard-to-get, but they are also expensive.
You can only beat a jackpot slot machine if you play the maximum bet. And not just once — you need to play the max bet all the time.
Sure, you need to get lucky only once to win big. But think about all those times you sat next to other slot players at the casino: how many of them left the casino with a large check in their pockets?
Some casino sites want you to believe that you can hack online slots. They promise you will win real money and progressive jackpots with special codes or key-stroke sequences.
Their slots secrets are nothing more than cheap marketing tricks they use to exploit your desire to win at slot and make money off you.
5. Manage your bankroll
If progressive slots are too expensive, how to define the right amount of money you should be investing in the games when you want to learn how to win at slots?
Picking a winning slot machine begins from choosing a game you can afford — and that's what bankroll management is about.
It's no secret that professional gamblers have well-defined systems in place to deal with losses and wins. You'll need one too.
]some useful tricks to win more on slots include:
- Setting up limits before you play
- Using a prepaid credit card
- Keeping a separate e-mail for gambling promos
- Relying on skrill for deposits and withdrawals
Find a list of actionable tips to develop your own strategy in my guide on how to manage your casino bankroll and get ready to be surprised.
This slots secret alone will help you to save a lot more money every time you win on slots.
6. The casino lobby
Not everything you see on the homepage (aka. 'the lobby') of an online casino is worth your money.
The lobby acts as the window of a shop: it displays the most attractive products to convince you to walk in.
But the most attractive products are often the least convenient for you, especially when you reason in terms of return to player and slots volatility.
While it's great to know what the newest slots are, remember to focus on value.
Open each game you see in the lobby if you want to try something new, but don't forget to check the RTP percentage before you place any bets.
Some of the coolest and most popular slot machine games give you so few chances to win real money that your bets are lost even before you spin the reels.
7. Play responsibly
Remember: gambling is supposed to be all about fun and entertainment. When playing slots stops being fun, you might have a problem. A serious one.
Try not to exaggerate, don't let your emotions prevail when you hit a cold streak, and always keep an eye on the amount of money you invest in the games.
This test by begambleaware is a good one to take when things start to go bad.
You can only win at slots if you are focused on the games and your mind is clear. If you feel you are not, take the test…or just take a break!
The FAQ to win at slots
Can you actually win at slots?
To be sure you can actually win at slots, you should only play games audited by independent authorities and not certified by the casinos that offer them.
Seals of approval coming from authorities like the united kingdom gambling commission (UKGC) and the malta gaming authority (MGA) certify the random number generator (RNG) of the games are fair.
When you play slots online, always choose online casinos approved by the UKGC and the MGA.
How to win at slots online?
To win at slots on a single spin, you can only choose the size of your bet and spin the reels. The game's RTP is what determines if you win money or not.
Albeit those are more commonly used on table games, you can follow strategies like the paroli or the martingale betting system. These systems and betting patterns help you to minimise variance and play for long-term results.
How to win at slots at a casino in vegas
Both short-term and long-term strategies are the same in all types of slots - let them be in vegas, atlantic city, europe, or online.
How to win at slots every time
There is no system, strategy, or secret to win at slots every time you play. Even books like "strategy system: how to win at slot machines" by greg elder and "learning to win: how to make a profit at slot machine gambling" by dr. Jon hiram friedl jr indicate that there is no surefire strategy or secrets to winning on slot machines every time.
What are the best slots to play?
The best slots to play are those with the highest return to player (RTP). These are the games where you get the highest winning chances and more player have big wins on these slots
How much can you win on slots?
The sum of the payout depends on the combination you line up on the screen and the size of your bet. The maximum win on slots varies from one game to the other. Progressive slots are the games with the highest possible wins.
How often do you win at slots in a casino?
There is no mathematical approach to predict when a slot is about to pay and how often you can win at slots. How to pick a machine with the best odds of winning.
The random number generator (RNG) makes every spin independent from all the ones that preceded it and the ones that will follow.
Famous chaos theorists argue that patterns can be found also in the ways the slot's rngs determine the combinations and slots can be solved. However, such patterns haven't been identified yet.

HOW TO WIN AT SLOTS
Slot machines are games with odds based in math, just like all other casino games. But few players understand just how those odds work, and whether they can do anything to improve their odds.
- Slots machine results are as random as humans can program a computer to be.
- Odds of the game are set so the house will have an edge
- Except in rare cases, slot machines are not games of strategy
The objective of this chapter is to introduce you to how slot machine odds work and what that means to your chance to win.
HOW THE HOUSE GETS ITS EDGE IN SLOTS MACHINES
Casino games make money for the house by paying less than the true odds of winning the bet. On table games, that can be relatively simple. At double zero roulette, for example with numbers 1 through 36 plus 0 and 00, the true roulette odds against any specific number are 37-1, but the house pays single-number winners only 35-1.
HOW MANY POSSIBLE OUTCOMES?
Slot machine odds work in a similar fashion to the roulette example, except there are many more possibilities on the slots. There are thousands, and sometimes millions, of reel combinations. There also is an open field for game designers to assign how much each winning combination pays. The number of winning combinations and the payoffs per winner work together to determine a game’s odds.
The sheer number of possibilities makes the math that goes into slot machine odds more complicated than on table games.
- On early three-reel slots with 10 symbols per reel, there were 1,000 possible combinations (10 x 10 x 10).
- If blank spaces between lines are used as stops, the number of combinations increases to 20x20x20, or 8,000.
- With bigger reels holding 20 symbols and 20 spaces, combinations increase to 40x40x40, or 64,000.
The change to virtual reels enabled programmers to make the reels to behave as if they had any number of stops. With 100 stops on each of three reels, there are 1 million combinations. The megabucks three-reel slot that paid the world record jackpot of more than $39 million has about 50 million combinations. Most modern video slots have five video reels can be as long as the gamemaker needs them to be. With 100 symbols on each of five reels, there are 10 billion combinations.
A SIMPLIFIED SLOT
To see how slots pay less than true odds to give the house an edge, let’s set up an example that’s as streamlined as slot odds can get, a game of the type used in the early decades after charles fey invented the three-reel slot machine in 1895. A hypothetical three-reel slot game with one 7, two bars, three cherries and four watermelons per reel would have 1,000 possible combinations and return 83.2 percent to players with this pay table.
IN OUR SAMPLE GAME:
- Each of three reels has 10 symbols. Each reel has one 7 – that’s the top jackpot symbol.
- Each reel also has two bars, three cherries and four watermelons.
- There are 1,000 possible three-reel combinations – 10 symbols times 10 symbols times 10 symbols.
- Only one combination – or 1 x 1 x 1 – will be three 7s.
- Eight combinations will be three bars, 27 will be three cherries and 64 will be three watermelons.
- 900 of the 1,000 combinations mix different symbols.
If the game paid at true odds, then the payoffs would be set up so that each 1,000 coins wagered would bring 1,000 coins in payoffs. One way to do that would be to have payoffs of 170 coins on three 7s, 30 on three bars, 10 on three cherries and 5 on three watermelons. But the casino must have an edge, or it couldn’t pay the bills and offer the game. So instead it pays 160 on three 7s, 25 on three bars, 8 on three cherries and 4 on three watermelons. Multiplied by the frequency of wins, those payoffs total 832 coins. By paying less than the true odds of the game, the machine has a payback percentage of 83.2 percent, or a little less than today’s 1- cent games.
SLOTS TODAY
Modern slot machine or online slots odds work in much the same way, except that the math is more complex for several reasons:
- Random number generators work from much larger number sets, leading to exponentially greater possibilities.
- Many more than four reel symbols are actually used.
- Most modern slots have more paylines than the one line in the sample slot above.
- Game programmers have to account for the effect of bonus events.
SLOTS EXAMPLES AND EXPLANATIONS
In the classic WMS gaming video slot super jackpot party, there are eight reel symbols that form winning combinations, plus the noisemaker and party guy symbols that launch a bonus event. All of the symbols need to be assigned sets of random numbers, and payoff values assigned to three-, four- and five of a kind winners. That makes calculations much more complex than in our example game above.
The number of paylines also complicates the math. Even if there’s only one jackpot symbol on each reel, a 30-line game means there are 30 chances to line up those symbols in a winning combination, instead of just one. So it goes for every possible combination – programmers have to account for each combination 30 times.
As for bonus events, nearly all modern slot machines have events in which regular play stops, and with no further wagers, you get a spin of a bonus wheel, a pick’em event, free spins or some other extra. Bonus event payoffs have to be included in the calculation of the game’s overall return.
OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
We can’t see the random numbers being generated, and it’s those numbers that really determine whether we win. In fact, there’s a list of things we can and can’t see that are important to our chance of winning.
- We can’t see the odds of the game.
- We can’t tell if one machine is higher paying than another.
- We can see a machine’s pay table, and that gives us a clue to volatility.
- We can see what kinds of bonuses are offered, and that also is a volatility clue.
Casinos don’t post payback percentages on individual games, and there’s no way for a player to calculate the odds since all the random number details are regarded as proprietary and not revealed. Even on different machines with the same game, we don’t know if the paybacks are the same. Game manufacturers make several versions of the same game available to casino operators, and each version has its own payback percentage. Two machines can look identical, but have different payback percentages.
However, a machine with a large top jackpot gives back less on smaller wins than a game with a smaller top prize, and that means the big jackpot games usually are more volatile. That’s not always the case – the big jackpot can be rare enough that the game still has a normal percentage of lower payoffs, but it’s a starting point.
In addition, games with free spin bonuses are more volatile than games with pick’em bonuses. Volatility matters in choosing what you want out of a game. Are you the type of player who wants to maximize chances at a really big win and are willing to accept that fast, bankroll-eating losses are part o f the game? Then you want a high-volatility game.
Would you rather have a game that gives frequent small wins and extends your playing time, but rarely pays big? Then you want a low-volatility game. But regardless of whether the game you choose has high volatility, low volatility or something in between, you can be sure the house has taken an edge with payouts that are less than the true odds of winning your bet.
- Casinos have an edge on slot machines because winners are paid less than true odds.
- Slot odds are mathematically complex because of the number of possible outcomes and the different paybacks per winner.
- You can’t look at a slot game and tell the odds. In fact, two identical-looking games can have different odds.
- Looking at a machine can give you a clue as it its volatility, and that can help in choosing a game.
HOW SLOTS CAN BE BOTH PROGRAMMED AND RANDOM
When a casino buys a slot machine from a manufacturer, it can choose from a variety of targeted payback percentages. The manufacturer might make the same game available in 87-, 89-, 91- and 93-percent versions, and it’s up to the operator to choose which works best in game mix and for its competitive position.
That the games have targeted payback percentages in their programming leads to misconceptions from players. A common theme in my email over the last 20 years has been, “how can games be both programmed and random? The programming must keep them on track for the percentage.”
The short answer is that slots are programmed for a target percentage in the same way table games are: odds of the game are set so they will naturally lead to an expected payback percentage.
A TABLE ANALOGY
Let’s use roulette as an example, because the math is uncomplicated.
- A double-zero roulette wheel has 38 numbers – 0, 00 and 1 through 36.
- The odds against any specific number coming up on any spin are 37-1.
- The casino pays only 35-1 on any winning single number.
- The two-unit difference between 37-1 odds and 35-1 payoffs is kept by the house.
- Divide that two-unit difference by 38 possibilities and you get 0.0526, for a 5.26- percent house edge.
In that way, roulette is “programmed” so that in the course of thousands of wagers, the house will keep 5.26 percent. Results can be random. The same number can turn up three or four or five times in a row. But over time, the odds of the game lead to that percent-edge.
SLOT “WHEELS”
What if instead of reels with symbols and results driven by a random number generator, we set up a slot-like game with slot-like payoffs by using a series of roulette-like wheels?
- Let’s say we line up three roulette-type wheels, each marked into 100 segments.
- We mark each segment with a slot symbol. Each wheel gets one 7, five bars, 10 cherries and so on.
- We have a dealer spin and drop a ball on each wheel.
- The total number of three-wheel combinations is 100x100x100, or 1 million.
That’s the same number of possible combinations you’d get on a slot machine if the random number generator was working with sets 100 numbers for each reel.
From there, it’s easy to calculate the number of possible combinations that have the ball landing in the same symbol on each wheel. For the 7, since there is only one on each wheel, it’s 1x1x1 – there is only one three-7s combination. For bars, it’s 5x5x5, or 125 out of the million total combinations. For cherries, it’s 10x10x10, or 1,000 three-cherry combos.
Note that we’re not using computer software here. We’re using physical equipment, but it’s giving us the equivalent of “programmed” combinations and odds. That’s just how the odds work on modernized computerized slot machines. They don’t force a game to pay an exact percentage, they just let the normal odds of the game drive long-term results to an expected percentage, the same way table games do.
PROGRAMMED VS. RANDOM, FAQ
The notion that slots are both programmed and random can be difficult to fathom. Confusion over slot programming has jammed my email box for years. Here are some of the questions readers ask most often.
A. “random results” is not the same as saying “equal results.” A game doesn’t have to be programmed so that a jackpot symbol shows up as often as a blank space, or a bonus symbol as often as a cherry.
The odds of the game are set so that blank spaces will show up more often than winning symbols and small winners will show up more often than big winners. On three-reel slots, that will lead to there being more losing spins than winners, and on five-reel video games it will lead to more “wins” for amounts less than the size of your bet than bigger winners. The programmer sets the odds of the game, and then lets random chance take its course.
A. Streaks are a normal part of the probability of the game. Let’s take a three-reel game with a 12% hit frequency -- you’ll have a winner an average of once per 8.333 spins. On your first spin, there’s an 88% chance it’ll be a loser. There’s a 77% chance you’ll lose two in a row, 68% chance you’ll lose three in a row, and so on.
At 20 in a row, there’s still a 7.8% chance of every spin being a loser. That’s easily within normal probability. Anyone playing a machine with a 12% hit frequency for very long will have streaks of 20 or more losses.
A. Your choices do make a difference in pick’em-style bonus events, but not in any way you can predict or control. The programmer knows that over a very long time, the bonus even will yield an average payback.
Let's make up a simple slots bonus event, in which you pick one of three symbols to reveal a bonus award. If you touch one symbol, you get 25 credits, if you touch a different one, you get 50, and if you touch the other you get 75. You don’t know which symbol hides each award, so your results are random. However, over a very long time, you’ll get each award about a third of the time, so will average 50 credits.
The programmer can build that average into calculations for the payback percentage. You have a random result contributing to odds that drive paybacks into a long- term average – the same as on the reel-spinning part of the slot game, and the same way table games work.
- Slot machines have targeted payback percentages built into their programming, but results are random.
- Programmed percentages on the slots work in the same way as percentages on the tables – the odds of the game lead to expected returns.
- Random results are not the same as equal results. Odds are set so big winners turn up less often than other combinations.
BEATABLE SLOT MACHINES
With some rare exceptions, las vegas-style slot machines with random number generators are not designed to be tests of skill. There is no strategy that can overcome the house edge.
Games are not beatable in the long run. There could be a change coming as both brick-and-mortar casinos and online operators try to reach out to the millennial generation. The state of nevada legalized fully skill-based electronic games in 2015, and it’s expected some games will make their way onto casino floors in 2016. In some international markets, skill already is part of the mix. Japanese pachinko parlors offer games known as pachisuro, a blend of slot game play and traditional pachinko, and skillful play may improve your results. Still, las vegas is the trend-setter in slot development, and its random number generator slots are designed to so the house can count on its edge. Even so, a few beatable games have made it to casino floors.
BANKED BONUSES
In the mid-to-late 1990s there were a flurry of games where you could collect coins or symbols on a video screen until you reached a trigger point for a bonus award. Players in the know could look for machines that were already part way toward slots free bonus territory, and play only when enough of the trigger was completed to give the player an edge. Such games are rare today.
In a casino with older equipment, you still might spot such games occasionally.
Piggy bankin:
This WMS gaming three-reel slot was the banked bonus trend-setter. Piggy bankin’ had a dotmation screen in the top box, above the mechanical reels. Every time the reels showed three blank spaces, a coin was added to a piggy bank animated in orange dots. When the break the bank symbol landed on the payline, an animated hammer broke the bank, and the player collected the amount displayed. It was soon discovered that if you played only with enough coins in then bank, you had an edge.
Racing 7s:
Before taking a full plunge into video, IGT had its “vision series” with a color LCD panel in the top box. Racing 7s featured red, white and blue 7s on a track. Each time a corresponding 7 would land on the payline in the main game, that color 7 would move a notch closer the finish line. To get an edge, you looked for a screen with 7s already close to the finish and a bonus payout.
Fort knox and buccaneer gold:
Silicon gaming, no longer in business, offered several games with banked bonuses.
On fort knox, if five numbers in a 10-digit code had already been solved through reel spins, you had an edge. Once the full code was solved, the vault would open for your bonus. In buccaneer gold, the object was to collect five daggers sticking in the ship’s rail. If there already were three or four daggers when you started, you had an edge.
S&H green stamps:
This was bally technologies’ entry into the banked bonus field. During play, you’d collect green stamps as they landed on the video reels. If you filled a book of 1,200 stamps, you’d go to a slots bonus event. The trick was to look for machines with 600 stamps or more already in the book. At that level, the player had an edge. In casinos with all new equipment, you won’t find these games. In casinos with older equipment, it’s possible. More important than the specific games is that you understand that if you ever see such a build-a-bonus, banked game, starting close to the finish improves your odds.
JACKPOT HUNTING
A number of players over the years have told me they beat the slots by looking for larger than usual progressive jackpots. It’s a method that works better on video poker where the house edge on the base game is smaller than on the slots. Slot payback percentages are low enough that even what looks like an oversized jackpot may not be enough to overcome the full house edge. Still, if you always wait to play a game until its jackpot is a certain size, you will be playing a game with a lower house edge than if you played for lesser amounts.
Here’s the method a jackpot-hunting player relayed to me:
- She starts by making daily rounds and charting jackpot amounts on different machines.
- Of the machines she tracks, she notes the payoff amount when someone wins the jackpot.
- Over many readings, she gets an idea of the average size of the jackpot when it hits.
- She then plays only when the jackpot reaches that average. For example, if the jackpot starts building from a $1,000 base and her chart of dozens of jackpots or more shows it hits at an average of about $2,500, then she starts playing the game only when the jackpot is $2,500 or more.
JACKPOT HUNTERS, BEWARE
If you’re going to play such games anyway, there’s no harm and some gain in delaying your play until the jackpot exceeds a targeted amount. However, profits are not guaranteed.
- Knowing the average size of the jackpot does not tell you the break-even point.
- There is no guarantee that you’ll be the one to hit the jackpot.
- Waiting for the jackpot to be a certain size does not increase your chances of winning the jackpot.
Let’s expand on that a little. Imagine a game where the jackpot usually hits at about $2.500. Unbeknown to you, the jackpot has to reach $5,000 before the game’s return reaches 100 percent. That means even if you start playing only when the jackpot is $2,500 or more, you still are playing a game on which the house has an edge. Waiting does ensure that when you do hit the jackpot, your average payout will be higher than if you started playing at the base level.
So if you’re jackpot hunting, good luck, but be aware there are pitfalls as well as big rewards.
SKILL-BASED BONUS EVENTS
Chapter 5, BONUS EVENTS, will deal more extensively with skill-based events. For now, understand that even though fully skill-based gaming has not yet launched in nevada, there are games with skill-based bonuses. Among those marketed in recent years are IGT’s centipede, where you play a version of the old arcade game in your bonus event, and GTECH’s zuma, based on the popular online game.
Though your skill makes a difference in these games, they are not beatable slots. Even if you’re a centipede grand master, the house still has an edge. With some variation by jurisdiction, a maximum of 4 percent of a game’s overall payout can be based on skill, and the house edge is high enough that getting the full 4 percent will not take you into profitable territory.
HOW TO WIN AT SLOTS - FAQ
Question 1: does the house gets an edge on slots by blocking winning combinations?
No. The house gets an edge by paying less than the true odds of winning on slots.
Question 2: on a mechanical slot with three reels and 10 symbols on each reel, how many possible three-reel combinations are there?
1,000 possible combinations.
Question 3: how many reel combinations are possible on modern slots with video reels or virtual reels?
Slots can be programmed with any number of slots on a virtual reel or video reel, so there can be as many reel combinations as the game designer needs.
Question 4: do identical-looking machines always have the same payback percentages?
No, identical-looking machines don’t always have the same payback percentage. You can’t tell a game’s odds by looking from the outside.
Question 5: do the slot payback percentages are “programmed” only in that the odds of the game are set to lead to a desired payback percentage?
Yes. Slot payback percentages are “programmed” only in that the odds of the game are set to lead to a desired payback percentage.
Question 6: does randomness mean all symbols must turn up on an equal portion of spins?
No. Results can be random while still setting the odds so some symbols occur more often than others.
Question 7: do long winning or losing streaks defy the odds of the games?
No. Long winning or losing streaks are part of normal probability.
Question 8: on most slots, is there an opportunity to overcome the house edge and be consistently profitable?
No. Most slots do not offer an opportunity to overcome the house edge and be consistently profitable.
Question 9: what is a “banked bonus”?
A banked bonus is an event in which you collect representations of coins or symbols until you have enough to trigger a bonus event.
Question 10: does waiting until a progressive jackpot reaches a certain size increase your chances of winning the jackpot?
No, until a progressive jackpot reaches a certain size does not increase your chances of winning the jackpot, but it increases your average payout when you win the jackpot.

Slot machine tips, tricks and best strategies
Have you ever stumbled upon a scam website presenting a secret slot strategy which will make you a lot of money? Don’t expect anything like that in this article. Slots can’t be defeated in the long run.
Although slots are theoretically unbeatable, there were some cases of players able to legally or illegally take advantage of their weaknesses and make money. You can read more about them in my article how to beat slots.
Really useful slot strategies are actually about finding the balance among following factors:
- Chance to win
- Size of the winnings
- Cost
- Thrill
- Playing time
Every player looks for something else, so there is no ideal strategy that fits everyone. I will show you my strategies, each suitable for a different kind of players. Finding out which of them fits you best is up to you.
You’ll more likely understand how my strategies work when you have already understood the concepts of slots RTP and variance.
At first glance it seems online slot machines are a 100% game of chance. And they really are, at least in the terms of a single game round. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t influence your chances by using the right betting strategy and choosing the right game to play.
Here is a list of factors that define your slots betting strategy:
- How to determine a bet size
- Decision when to stop
- Selection of a slot game
- Decision when to use the gamble feature (red or black)
- Selected number of winlines
In the rest of this article I’ll teach you how to use the choices above to play slots more effectively.
While slot RTP and volatility apply to a single game round, the RTP and volatility of betting strategy apply to the whole game session or casino visit. The following article describes in detail what I mean by a betting strategy.
Tips & tricks for slots
All casino games, including slots, are disadvantageous for a player. Their RTP is lower than 100 % and they favor the casino. That means that you need luck to win, which is exactly why higher volatility is generally better for you.
Let me explain… in low-volatility games, the results over time tend to stay closer to the expected return, which is lower than 100 %. On the contrary, in high-volatility games, you are still losing money in the long run, however, you have a chance to win a big sum of money, thanks to the high volatility.
From a different perspective, you can win the same amount of money while placing smaller bets. If you place smaller bets with higher volatility, you will lose less in the long run, while also maintaining a chance to win big.
That’s why the majority of my slot tricks and strategies are based on increasing volatility, while also considering the game’s RTP.
Trick #1: avoid bet types which significantly decrease RTP
The majority of online slots have the same RTP for all kinds of bets. However, some slots derived from land-based slot games add significant disadvantage to certain bets. In this case you should always choose the bet type without the disadvantage. I will use two examples to demonstrate this fact.
Bet on all 3 winlines costs 2 cents and bet on 1 winline costs 1 cent. It’s quite obvious that bet on 1 line has a huge disadvantage and its RTP will be extremely low. Therefore, it is always beneficial to choose the bet of 2 cents.
Example 2: full bets unlock bonus features that double your win on three joker symbols. The game without this feature probably won’t have very attractive RTP. So either choose another slot or play the full bet with highest RTP.
Trick #2: use double up feature to regulate the volatility
The double up feature (red/black) gives you the option to double your win with a 50% chance. In some games (like slots from novomatic) you can do this multiple times in a row (13 I think).
This feature dramatically increases the volatility of the game. From a long-term perspective, you exchange a lot of smaller wins for proportionally fewer wins of higher value.
For example, without using the double up feature, you could win 40 times, winning $1 each time. However, if you used the double up feature up to 3 times, you could win 5 times, winning $8 each time. The long-term expected value is the same, but the individual wins are bigger.
If your goal is to win big, then double up feature is exactly what you need. It’s predictable and easy to simulate, I use it in some of my recommended slot strategies.
Note: be careful about using the double up feature when playing with bonus money, as it might be forbidden by the bonus terms and conditions. This applies also when playing with free spins no deposit bonuses, where your choice is also limited by the game for which you've received the free spins.
Trick #3: decrease the number of winlines to increase volatility
Did you know that if you set the game to 1 winline instead of 10, you’ll most likely get 5 to 10 times higher game volatility?
When you bet $2 on one line, your average win will be much higher (and less frequent) as when you bet $0.20 on 10 lines. When you bet on 10 lines at the same time, the wins in the paytable are 10 times smaller. In most slots you usually hit a winning combination only on a small number of the 10 lines, so your average wins are also lower.
Note that this trick usually can’t be used by high rollers, as the maximum bet per line is usually restricted. But there are also slots which are an exception – like cleopatra from IGT.
However, if you are a player who doesn’t bet more than $2 in a single round, this trick is a must-have.
How to win big on slots
The simple answer to this question is – you have to risk big to win big. However, if you want to win big with highest possible odds, you have to push the volatility of your strategy up to the sky.
Controversially, the most effective way to WIN BIG is to try to lose as fast as possible. That doesn’t make sense, does it? Let me explain.
Statistically (in the long run), you lose money with every bet you place. That is how the RTP works. To lose less in the long run, you have to minimize the total sum of your bets. To minimize the total sum of your bets, you have to try to lose your budget with as little betting as possible. If you do so and RTP remains the same, the principles of statistics reward you with a better chance for a big win.
Slot machine betting strategies
Now for my favorite part of the casino.Guru website. Slot math is really my passion and some of the strategies below were invented by me independently from strategies published on other websites. I tested each of them with my own simulation software using reverse-engineered slot games. Any sharing is appreciated :).
"smart gambler" – gamble up to desired win
- Volatility: variable
- RTP: very high (up to 96%)
- Time of play: variable
Smart gambler is my favorite slot betting strategy. I derived the name from the "gamble button" that gives you chance to double your win with a 50 % chance.
The main idea of the smart gambler strategy is this:
You spin with very small bets. When you hit a winning combination, you start doubling up the win using the gamble button. You keep doubling up until you either miss and lose, or until you win that high amount that you can happily withdraw and leave.
The smart gambler strategy is almost ideal. It has very high RTP, while it also allows you to choose the size of win and how long you will be able to play with your budget.
Here is a step by step guide how to play smart gambler strategy:
- Choose a slot which has a gamble feature.
- Decide how long you would like to play. Divide this time by the average game round time and you’ll get the approximate number of game rounds.
You want to play for 1 hour = 60 x 60 = 3600 seconds. If one round takes around 4 seconds, then you actually want to play 3600 / 4 = 900 game rounds.
- If your selected game has restricted maximal number of double-ups, then I recommend you increase the game’s volatility by configuring just one winline (with the same total bet). With this strategy, you will avoid the low initial wins that you can’t double up to your desired win.
- If your budget is very low, you can even play on one winline for 1 cent. With my smart gambler strategy and an adequate amount of luck, you can still win big.
- Playing slots is not a race. You can play faster with a lower initial bet or enjoy one spin a little longer with higher initial bets. It’s up to you.
Now you probably wonder, how this strategy is doing in terms of betting system RTP.
It's doing awesome!
Here’s the explanation. You only do two types of bet. The initial spin costs you statistically 100 % minus the RTP of the game. If a game’s RTP is 96 %, it means that the initial spin will cost you only:
100% - 96% = 4% of the bet
That’s just $4 for a one-hour-long gaming session with a $100 budget and a $0.10 initial bet. The double up bet has a win probability of 50 % which gives it a 100 % RTP. In other words, the double up bet costs you nothing in the long run. Therefore,
"the RTP of my smart gambler betting system is (in an ideal scenario) equal to RTP of the selected slot game."
Note that this betting system still doesn’t guarantee you will win, but gives you a fair chance.
Simulation of the smart gambler strategy
The following tables show the results of a million player simulations using my smart gambler strategy. The simulation was completed on a slot with 96 % RTP. The variables were the desired win and the maximum number of allowed double ups.
If the win was lower than expected, then the whole win was placed on roulette. A budget of $100 with a $0.10 initial bet gives you 1000 rounds – around 60 to 90 minutes of playing.
Max. Allowed double-ups | desired win | % of winners | average win | strategy RTP |
---|---|---|---|---|
4 | $1000 | 6.53% | $1415 | 92.5% |
8 | $1000 | 6.52% | $1448 | 94.5% |
16 | $1000 | 6.83% | $1401 | 95.8% |
no limit | $1000 | 6.86% | $1402 | 96.14% |
4 | $10000 | 0.67% | $13546 | 91.1% |
8 | $10000 | 0.64% | $14436 | 92.34% |
16 | $10000 | 0.67% | $14189 | 95.5% |
no limit | $10000 | 0.69% | $13892 | 96.35% |
4 | $50000 | 0.125% | $70601 | 88.64% |
8 | $50000 | 0.13% | $70275 | 91.3% |
16 | $50000 | 0.128% | $73317 | 94.12% |
no limit | $50000 | 0.145% | $66786 | 96.75% |
Simulations prove that RTP of this betting strategy is very high. RTP increases with higher number of allowed double ups, as no additional roulette bets are required. For unlimited number of double-ups, the RTP is equal to the game’s RTP (small differences in measured RTP occur due to extreme volatility in this strategy).
Simulations show the smart gambler strategy keeps fair chances even when aiming for a giant win (500x the entire budget). However, the chances of such a big win are proportionally low. Be very careful and don’t fall in to the "I’ll once win my money back" loop. A healthy target is something around 5x-20x your daily budget.
For all the reasons mentioned I consider this to be THE BEST SLOTS STRATEGY (apart from not playing at all).
Here are slots suitable for my smart gambler strategy:
- Book of dead (playtech)
- Novomatic slots (such as book of ra)
"moonshot" – the ultimate all in strategy with IGT slots
- Volatility: extreme
- RTP of betting system: very high (93%-96%)
- Time of play: extremely short
This is the craziest and the most volatile strategy I could figure out amongst all casino games. It’s similar to betting "all in" on a number in roulette… just MORE volatile.
Some slots made by IGT allow you to make a huge bet on a single winline. If you first decrease the number of winlines to one, then the game allows you to increase the bet on that line up to the total maximum allowed bet. In some slots this can be up to $100.
With a $100 bet on a single line at diamond queen slot, your potential wins range from $500 to $100k.
As a result, you either lose everything in just a few spins or win an amount in the range from nice to legendary.
You remember, right? The less you bet in total, the higher is the RTP of your betting strategy. That’s how this strategy works. If you go all in and leave with a win, then the RTP of your betting strategy equals to the RTP of the game. In the case of diamond queen, it’s (according to the game’s paytable) between 92.97% and 96.08%. In case of cleopatra, it’s around 95%.
So your one-spin "session" would statistically cost you only $5-$7 (in the long run). The rest would be eventually paid out to winners who use the same strategy.
I have found three slots which support this feature: diamond queen, wolf run and cleopatra. Cleopatra offers the highest possible win – 10 000 times the bet. However, I would choose diamond queen, as it seems more balanced.
There are 3 things to remember with this strategy:
- IGT slots cap the maximum win to $250k. So, if you bet $100 on single line in cleopatra, you risk that you’ll win $1 million, but only get $250k.
- Don’t risk a high win in a casino which can’t afford to pay it out. Use this strategy only in huge casinos with monthly revenues over $1 million like leovegas.
- Never exceed your initial budget. Spin and leave when you’ve reached your budget. Don’t use this strategy if you’ve had any sort of gambling problems in the past.
If you were crazy enough to try this strategy and then managed to hit it big, please let me know. I’ll share your story.
P.S.: I plan to reverse engineer diamond queen and calculate the chances for different win sizes.
"reverse martingale" – reinvest the win strategy
- Volatility: high
- RTP of betting system: high
- Time of play: variable
Reverse martingale is a good betting strategy if your favorite slot doesn’t have a double-up feature. Do you know the roulette betting strategy called martingale? Reverse martingale does the opposite.
Martingale betting strategy (actually doesn’t work) suggests you to double up your bet after each loss. The idea is that once you have to win and then you’ll win back all your former bets. In reality, your bets grow exponentially and you risk your whole available bankroll in order to win just the initial bet. If you keep using the martingale strategy, you’ll go bankrupt eventually.
The main idea of reverse martingale is to play for small initial bets and bet the entire win in the next round until you win big enough. This strategy is similar to the smart gambler strategy, but it uses increased bets instead of the double up feature.
You start with $100 and bet an initial bet of $0.10. After 15 rounds lost, you suddenly win $4.41. The next round you bet the closest possible amount to your win – in this case $4.40. If you lose, then you continue with the initial bet. If you win again – for example $35, then continue with a $35 spin. If you lose, you get back to betting $0.10 each round. Repeat this until you win a satisfying amount or lose your entire budget.
If your win exceeds the maximum bet in the slot which you are currently playing, start placing the maximum bets. Be careful to not spend more than you have won in the previous round. Otherwise you’ll lose big part of your budget and significantly shorten your time of play.
The reverse martingale has slightly lower volatility and lower overall RTP than smart gambler, but its advantage is that you can use any slot that you like, even if it doesn’t have the gamble feature.
You can use any slot you like with the reverse martingale strategy, unlike with the two aforementioned strategies.
Also, the time of play is predictable and you can easily estimate it from the initial bet and your budget.
Time of play = (your budget / initial bet) * 1.3 * 4 seconds
The win amount is less predictable than with the smart gambler strategy, but more predictable than the casual player strategy or the moonshot strategy.
Reverse martingale strategy doesn’t work that well for high rollers, as they’ll hit the maximum bet of a slot quite often.
Tips for reverse martingale strategy:
- When you hit a win with your initial bet, write down your current balance (before the win is added to it). This will help you to do the proper math and you’ll be less likely to exceed the bet which would lead to losing the balance dedicated for the small initial bets.
- If possible, configure the slot to only one winline. The increased volatility plays in your favor.
Simulation of the reverse martingale strategy
The following tables show the results of a million player simulation using the reverse martingale strategy. I made the simulations on a 96 % RTP medium variance slot with a $50 maximum bet per round. Each simulation was a session of 1000 rounds with basic bet + additional rounds, so players either lost the entire budget or won a satisfying amount.
I was experimenting with various parameters for the initial bet (budget) and satisfying wins.
Initial bet (budget) | min. Satisfying win | % of winners | average win | strategy RTP | average # of rounds |

$10 ($10000) | +$500000 | - | - | - | 6521 |
The simulations above illustrate how effective this strategy is when playing with a smaller initial budget. They also illustrate how it becomes ineffective when initial bet gets closer to the slot’s maximum bet.
Your chance to win 10x your budget is 4.4% with $100 budget and $0.10 basic bet. With $5000 budget and 5$ bet (same proportion) this chance drops to 1.22% and for $10 000/$10 drops even further to 0.124%. Out of one million high rollers who started with $10 000 and played with $10 initial bet, none of them managed to get over $500 000.
The reverse martingale strategy works properly only if the maximum bet is at least 100x-200x higher than the basic bet. That’s true for the majority of casual players.True high rollers who desire high RTP and extreme wins should look for a different strategy.
Note that for budgets and basic bets with which this strategy actually works, the average number of rounds played is around 1300. That’s 1.3x more than rounds played with initial bets. This explains the 1.3 coefficient in time of play formula above.
"casual player" – constant bet strategy
- Volatility: depends on slot and bet size
- RTP of betting system: depends on bet size and satisfying win
- Time of play: depends on bet size and satisfying win
The strategy which I call "casual player" is one of the simplest strategies you can use. You start spinning with a certain bet size and keep spinning with same bet until you lose everything, win enough or decide to stop after certain amount of time.
This strategy is used by many casino players. I have decided to analyze it mainly to illustrate how ineffective it is compared to my strategies.
Let’s start by defining "the casual player". I know that many players change the bet size according to their intuition or increase the bet when they are on a lucky streak, but for the sake of simplicity, I’ll keep the bet the same during the entire simulation.
So let’s describe our casual player as a player who:
- Starts with a budget of $(A)
- Bets $(B) per round
- Stops playing when wins more than $(C)
- And plays max. (D) number of rounds
Simulation of the casual player strategy
For each setup I simulated one million players with the same 96% RTP medium variance slot. Normal gaming session may take 1-2 hours, so I have decided to fix (D) to 1500 rounds (number of rounds after which player leaves regardless of his current bankroll). Then I have experimented with a $100 budget.
Note: most slots work in a way that a win is always proportional to the bet. So the simulation using a $1 bet, $100 budget and $500 desired win will return the same results as the one with $10 bet, $1000 budget and $5000 desired win. Therefore, I made all the simulations with a $100 budget and I changed only the bet and the satisfying win.
Here are the tables with simulations for $100 budget and max. 1500 rounds. There are 3 tables with satisfying wins of $200, $1000 and $5000 respectively.
Bet | % of players with satisfying win | % of losers (avg. Loss) | % of winners (avg. Win) | strategy RTP | average # of rounds | thrill factor |

$1 | 0% | 75.3% ($94) | 24.6% ($158) | 68% | 882 | medium |
$5 | 0.003% | 94.3% ($100) | 5.7% ($978) | 60.6% | 219 | high |
$10 | 0.21% | 97.2% ($100) | 2.8% ($2044) | 59.7% | 111 | very high |
$20 | 0.94% | 98.5% ($100) | 1.5% ($4437) | 65.8% | 48 | very high |

$100 | 1.17% | 98.83% ($100) | 1.17% ($7291) | 86.5% | 3 | extreme |
When you look at the table above, you can find everything a good strategy should have:
- High RTP
- High wins and thrill factor
- Adequate time of play
The problem is that at the same time you can have only two of those things.
- You can bet $10/spin, have nice RTP and aim for very high wins, but your gaming session will likely end within few minutes.
- You can bet $0.1/spin, kill time and not spend much money, but your chance to win more than just few dollars is minimal.
- Or you can bet $2/spin, aim for medium wins and play for half an hour in average, but you have to accept a low strategy RTP.
The play time with constant bet strategy is unpredictable. The average play time value might look good at first glance, but in reality it’s highly biased because of the lucky players who managed to play until the end. Following chart illustrates that for $2/spin and a $1000 satisfying win setup.
You can clearly see that 55% of players ran out of their respective budgets within the first 300 rounds. The chance that you’ll lose your budget sooner than you intended is very high. This increases the risk of exceeding your budget, which is one of the signals of pathological gamblers.
The analyzed setup with $2 bets is the one with the most balanced time of play. The setup with a bet of $5 per spin is even more unbalanced with 80% of players losing their budgets within the first 200 rounds.
While unpredictable play time may be considered as clear negative, the unpredictable win size may increase the fun. Following plot displays the distribution of net wins/losses in my million player simulation.
I have intentionally omitted players who lost everything because there would be a huge spike at the beginning of the chart. The distribution reminds me of a "gauss curve". The spike at $1000 value reminds how important is to know when to stop.
My next chart illustrates the distribution of wins/losses without the satisfying win rule.
This chart resembles "gauss curve" even more. The "know when to stop" spike is flattened.
Conclusions
The constant bet strategy is the simplest betting strategy there is. You can achieve different results by choosing a different bet size, but you’ll never have good results like with the smart gambler strategy or the reverse martingale strategy. The biggest difference is in the time of play. With constant bet, the time of play is quite short and unpredictable.
Also, if you aim for a giant win, choosing a different strategy is a must. You will almost certainly not get there with the casual player strategy.
I can recommend casual player strategy only to those players who wish to kill time with low bets, low losses and even lower wins. In that case, I recommend placing one thousandth of your evening budget per spin.
"my mom’s strategy"
- Volatility: zero
- RTP of betting system: 100%
- Time of play: none
The optimal strategy of playing slots is surprisingly the simplest one. Don’t play them at all. I can call this "my mum’s strategy", because I knew that if I asked her which strategy she would use to play slots, she would tell me "I wouldn’t play slots at all". So I have asked her and she really gave me this answer.
Mathematically, she is right. This is the only strategy with a 100% RTP. I made a computer simulation of million players who went to the casino and haven’t played slots. The simulation confirmed that none of the players lost anything so the theoretical RTP of this strategy is really 100%.
The disadvantage of my mum’s strategy is absolutely no thrill factor as obviously you can’t win anything. Also, zero time of play may be problem in some brick and mortar casinos or gaming venues which require you to play once you are in. The solution for this might be to find some other excitement in your life. Money spared on gambling give you countless options ;).

How to win a casino slot machine
How to win a JACKPOT on casino slot machines
want to win a jackpot on the slot machines? Here are the ins and outs.
By paul ace diamond "huggy" blow
A $2000 jackpot on a megawinner slot machine.
If you want to win jackpots on casino slot machines, it can be done. If you have been in the casinos you have probably seen people win jackpots of a couple thousand dollars or more on the slots, and you think, "why can't I do that?" well, you can. And here I will discuss the ins and outs of winning jackpots on casino slot machines.
Technically, a "jackpot" is a win of $1200 or more on a single slot machine spin or bonus round. On most slot machines you will have to be betting max credits, or close to max credits, in order to win the jackpot awards. Max credits on most slot machines are between $3-$5 a spin. I personally have won three $2000 jackpots (at $5 a spin) and a handful of $1200 jackpots (at $3 a spin) on my favorite slot machine, megawinner, since september 2013. Hitting the jackpot is a very, very exciting feeling, I can attest to that.
In order to win these jackpot awards on casino slot machines you will need three things:
1) deep pockets (a bankroll of at least a few hundred dollars you can afford to lose)
2) balls of steel (the courage to continue even when behind a few hundred dollars)
3) the LUCK to hit a jackpot before your bankroll has been wiped out
Hitting jackpots on casino slot machines will NOT happen each time you go to the casino, they happen very infrequently. You do NOT want to go chasing after jackpots -- betting max credits -- on slot machines that are not paying out or giving you frequent bonus rounds. That is a sure way to lose your money in a hurry. The BEST way to occasionally win a slot machine jackpot is to wait until you are on a slot machine that is HOT and paying out before you start betting the max credits. When I play slot machines I routinely move from game to game looking for a "hot" machine that is paying out. When you find such a machine THAT is the time to start betting big. There is no guarantee that you will find a "hot" slot machine every time you go to the casino, but to increase the chances you should go to the casinos on off nights or after 2:00 AM on weekends when they are less crowded and you have more open games to choose from. Also, if your "hot" game starts cooling down, decrease the size of your bets until you are sure the game is not "hot" anymore, then move to another game. There are many theories about "hot" games among the so-called experts, but experience tells me that slot machines do indeed run in cycles of sort. For more on how to find a HOT slot machine read this article: how to find the HOT slot machines in casinos
There are also some video slot machines -- particularly aristocrat's "reel power" games -- where you can win jackpot amounts WITHOUT having to bet maximum credits. I personally won a $1500 jackpot on aristocrat's buffalo slot machine game with just an 80 cent bet. For more on these types of games, read this article: slot machines: 1024 ways to win games
Paying taxes on slot machine jackpots
when you win a $1200 or up jackpot award on a casino slot machine the machine will usually display a "JACKPOT call attendent" message on the screen. You cannot simply cash out your ticket and leave the casino, you will be required to fill out some tax forms before you are paid. These jackpot awards are reported to the IRS and you will be required to pay taxes on them, unfortunately. You will be given the option to either have the casino take out 25% of your jackpot award to hold for taxes, or you can take the full amount and pay the taxes at the end of the year. Personally, I like to pay at the end of the year. When winning a jackpot you will also be required to show your ID, which the casino records for tax purposes. Without proper ID you will not be able to collect your jackpot money.
If you get a couple jackpots under your belt you may start feeling like you can do it every time you hit the casinos. This happened to me once when I won two $2000 jackpots on consecutive casino visits. Do not make the mistake of chasing after jackpots when the games are not paying out! Reserve the max credit bets for the hot slot machines and you will increase the odds of winning jackpots and decrease the chances of losing all your money.

A detailed look at slot machines and how they work
These gambling machines have three or more spinning reels which display symbols. The goal is to spin the reels and have the symbols match up to form winning combinations. In order to play, you would place a bet, spin the reels and hope for the best possible winning combination.
Over the years these machines have evolved and modern slots are more exciting than ever. The majority of slots are played online through online casinos. The best online casinos offer hundreds of slots titles to choose from, and these modern online slots can offer up to millions of dollars in rewards.
So where do you start?
How to play slot machines
The first step in spinning those internet reels is finding an online casino or a selection of online casino games that look promising to you. You can start by reading our online casino reviews to see which ones suit your personal gambling preferences. Online casinos are constantly trying to keep up with their competitors by having the best software, best game selections, and of course, the best offers.
If you are interested in starting on the slot machines, it would be wise to look for those offers. With increasing competition comes better deals and more FREE MONEY! Online casinos love to boast about their long lists of slots titles and massive game selections. Therefore, you can often find casino bonuses that score you all kinds of free play on slots and other online casino games. The most common type of no-deposit bonuses is free spins bonuses. All you need to do is register with an online casino and start playing - no download or deposit necessary!
How to win at slots
Slot machines are much less intimidating compared to table games. There is not a huge deal of strategy involved. If you want to win the slot machine jackpot, you have to bet some money and for the most part, hope for the best. However, there are some slot machine tips that can increase your winning odds and help guide you to the best slot machines to play.
Modern-day slots are controlled by a random number generator (RNG) which is used to generate completely random number combinations. This controls the payback percentage for each slot machine. The RNG is programmed to have a specific payback percentage for its respective slot game. Usually, the more money the machine requires per bet, the higher the payback percentage will be. These payback percentages are rarely ever changed due to the amount of work it requires to make these revisions.
So how much are you willing to gamble? Knowing how much risk you are willing to take is an indicator of how much money you could walk away with. What kind of slots player are you? Are you someone who likes to go in big and take your chances at the progressive jackpot slots who are you okay will going in small and walking away with a bit at a time?
A game’s volatility refers to how much risk is involved with that game title. If you are aware of the volatility of the particular slots you wish to play, you will have an idea of how frequently you can expect the slot to pay out and how to win on slot machines. Low volatility slots will hit frequently but have lower payouts, while high volatility slots will hit less frequently, however, will payout in much higher amounts.
Once you have made this determination, then choose your slots accordingly. When playing slots, always bet high enough to activate a new set of winning symbols. This will increase the overall payback percentage. When betting on progressives, always play the games with the highest jackpots and be sure to bet the maximum amount of coins in order to be eligible to win this jackpot.
It is very important to familiarize yourself with the slots you choose to play. Different titles have different return-to-player (RTP) rates. RTP refers to the funds a player is expected to win back from a certain game over a predetermined amount of time. This percentage is a theoretical number usually used as a reference. The average RTP rate for online slots is 96% however, some online slots have extremely high RTP rates.
Scoring the slot machine jackpot
The best slot machines to play are arguably the progressive slots. These slot machine jackpots titles can pay upwards of $1 million. However, the odds of actually winning are extremely slim. Our experts have taken a look at these and have studied what increases your chances on how to win at slots with progressive jackpots.
The progressive jackpot slots are made from a percentage of the money played in the slot titles included. As more and more players put money into the progressive jackpot, the total grows until one lucky winner gets the winning combination. The payback percentage on the other winning symbols will pay out less and not all progressive slots will payout the same. It is a good idea to learn as much as you can about the types of slots you wish to play, so you can know what to expect from them.
Finding the best slot machines to play
The most advantageous way to browse slot machines is through finding bonuses and special offers. This way, you can try out different games without risking your own money. There are many different ways you can claim casino bonuses and these bonuses all come in different forms.
Oftentimes, online casinos will advertise their game selections by offering free play bonuses and free spins bonuses. These casino bonuses allow you to try out online casino games before registering with a casino or depositing your own money. Free play and free spins bonuses are a great way for online casinos to reel in new customers. There are so many casino options on the market, it can be tough competition for casinos.
Once you have found an online casino or a few online casinos that you feel are a good fit, you can register and receive your welcome bonuses. Welcome bonuses are offered once you have signed up with an online casino. This is a great way for the online casino to reward you for choosing them. Welcome bonuses usually include a certain amount of free spins and free play as well, so that you can start feeling comfortable with the selection of games offered.
When you think you are ready to start depositing your own money, you can expect to start receiving the big bonuses. Online casinos will often offer first deposit bonuses, and some even offer second and third deposit bonuses! These are usually the biggest bonuses, oftentimes offering a 100% match bonus on the first (sometimes even second and third) deposit. This means that if you deposit $500 into an online casino to start playing, they will match you, giving you a FREE $500 to play with. Think of all the spins you can achieve with that!
Of course, you will get to keep your winnings, however, most online casinos will have wagering requirements attached to their bonuses. Always read the terms and conditions before you deposit your money to avoid any disappointment.
How to win at slots? Try these 10 amazing tricks that really work
Looking for slot machine tips on how to win at slots? If you’ve done even a peripheral search, you’ll see there’s a lot of advice out there. Some of it is really good, some of it is complete BS, the key is separating the wheat from the chaff. For this article, I’ve poured through the seemingly endless slot machine tips and tricks out there, done a bit of experimenting myself, and come up with a list of the simplest, most effective ways how to win at slots.
Slot machine tips that really work!
Effective slots strategy means giving yourself the advantage. That leads us to tip number 1.
1 – avail yourself of no deposit bonus codes
Before you look into ways to trick the slot machine, try tricking the casino. The casinos aren’t going to be happy that I’m writing this, but the fact is, you can get tons of stuff for free if you look in the right places.
Casinos are businesses and casinos need players. It’s a highly competitive industry, so casinos go to great lengths to out-do each other to get you in the door. No deposit bonus codes are the casino equivalent of a lady of the night sliding up her skirt and showing more and more leg to draw you in.
No deposit bonuses are basically free money. A $10 free chip gives you the chance to win at slots without the risk of losing a (real) dime. Investing some time in searching for no deposit bonus codes can dramatically increase your chances to play slots for free, while winning for real.
2 – divide and conquer – not the slot machines, but the casinos
As I said, competition among casinos in attracting new players is stiff and can be used to your advantage. Free chips, free spins and bonuses are all ways casinos compete to get you in the door. What many prospective players don’t know is that online gambling laws vary widely by state and country, so what casinos can offer in one country in terms of bonuses and perks may well be forbidden in another.
That’s where US residents actually have an advantage. US gaming laws allow players to claim some of the best bonuses in the world. Taking advantage of this, if you’re US based, can exponentially multiply your bankroll with few to no strings attached.
So what’s the difference between an okay bonus and a fantastic one? From what I’ve seen, the first criteria to look for is the wagering requirement. A wagering requirement is a multiplier that defines the amount you will have to bet before your bonus will be released. For most bonuses, you will not be able to withdraw the bonus itself, and will only be able to withdraw what you won at slots off the bonus after you have completed the wagering requirement. The wagering requirement is often also referred to as “playthrough” in industry speak.
So, look for low wagering requirements/playthrough. 10x or less is always considered a good deal. No playthrough requirement is fantastic.
To elucidate the concept, let’s say you signed up for a $10 bonus with 50x playthrough (wagering requirement). That means that you would have to bet $500 of your bonus winnings before that money would be transferred to your cash balance and available for you to withdraw.
Now, that same $10 bonus with a 10x wagering requirement would mean you only have to bet $100 of your bonus winnings to be able to cash out. A pretty significant difference if you ask me and one that swings the advantage back your way.
Furthermore, it’s essential to look for bonuses that don’t come with a maximum cash out. Many casinos will limit the amount you can withdraw from your bonus winnings in this way. The words “no max cash out” in the bonus terms should be music to your ears.
3 – loose lips may sink ships but loose slots are a dream come true
Okay, we’ve all heard of the proverbial “loose” slot. The term dates back to the early days of mechanical slot machines and the perception that a missing tooth on an old sprocket or some other mechanical defect could make a slot machine loose, and hence more likely to pay out more often.
Whether this is an urban myth or not, in the world of today’s online slot real money and the random number generators that run them, there is some truth to the notion of a loose slot machine. One of the secrets of how to win at slots is that they really do pay out at different rates. Obviously, the casino doesn’t want you to know this, let alone which machines are actually loose, which is a well-kept industry secret.
4 – know which slots not to play
However, over the years casinos adopted certain tactics in placing loose machines to minimize loses and maximize payout exposure. The general rule was not to put lose machines by the door or at the ends of long aisles near exits. Doing so would effectively minimize the positive exposure the casino would get from a machine that kept paying out. Pop in the door, hit it big, pop out and the casino has lost the inspirational effect seeing a big winner can have on other players. Yes, it really happens, people do hit the jackpot! And the casino wants their joy to be contagious and spread to as many other players as possible. If they make straight for the door and vanish, the effect is lost.
The same is true for slot machines at the end of long rows. Pop down from your room, take some cash from a loose machine at the end of the row on the way and you’re off to the buffet or show before anyone even know you won at slots. This is seen as a marketing loss the casino takes seriously.
The same is oddly true for online casinos. While the “avoid machines at the end of long rows and near exits” may be much harder to apply at an online casino, it is a solid rule of thumb that if you haven’t seen a win on a machine you’re playing in a long time, it’s probably best to move on to another machine. It’s important to keep in mind that with random number generators, each spin is a unique event, so the more money you put into a single slot machine in no way increases your chances of winning at slots. When on a slots losing streak, it’s time to move on in hopes of hitting a loose machine elsewhere in the casino.
5 – go random, not progressive
There are two types of slots jackpot, random and progressive. Random jackpots are usually fixed, and, as the name implies, pop up at random. Progressive jackpots pool players money and their ever-increasing amount depends on how many people play a particular slot. Progressives also come in multi-slot forms, with a group of different machines working together to offer one, ever-increasing mega jackpot. Progressives offer the chance to walk into the casino a pauper and walk out a member of the millionaires’ club, which obviously makes them very, very tempting. A temptation some say is best avoided.
There are, however, differing views on this. Some commentators argue that progressives are better, as each spin is a completely independent event, your chances are the same either way, so why not go for the gold? Who wouldn’t want to become a millionaire at the push of a button?
The logic makes sense until you peer a little further behind the veil. As I mentioned earlier, not all slots are created equal. Slot machines pay out at different rates. By playing random jackpot slots you increase the odds of hitting a jackpot, even though that jackpot is smaller. Think about it, progressive slots have to be set in a way to reach those mega jackpots, which obviously means they pay out substantially less over time that your average random jackpot. While your winnings may be lower playing random jackpot slots, your overall chances of winning are higher. A step-by-step approach to the millionaires’ club may not be as thrilling as that one-time mega win, but it does slant the odds slightly more in your favor.
6 – free is good
As mentioned above, casinos are highly competitive businesses and always in search of new players. To attract new players, or old players back to a particular casino, casinos often offer free spins on select slot machines. Avail yourself of the chance to play for free. Free spins provide a great way to learn a game and to find out how to win at slots, get a feel for how best to place your bets and possibly, win big without spending a dime.
7 – bet wisely to win at slots
Conventional slots wisdom preaches “bet max”. The rationale is fairly simple. With slots having multiple pay lines these days, when you bet max you can cash in big on multiple line winnings, which is true.
At the same time, it’s important to keep in mind that with random number generators your chances of winning at slot machines are the same no matter whether you bet max of the minimum. Simply put, betting max will not increase your odds of winning. That said, on certain machines with added features and bonuses, like fucanglong, betting max can exponentially multiply your winnings. Fucanglong has incredibly powerful features, and when you trigger a feature you get a number of free games at the value of your bet. Think of each free game as a bet multiplier, a free chance at a higher bet to reap the maximum rewards.
The fact is, all slot machines have a set degree of what’s called “volatility”. Slots with high volatility don’t pay out as often, but pay out more when they do. Machines with low volatility pay out smaller wins more frequently. To capitalize on high volatility machines, it pays to bet high. Factor in multipliers thanks to special features and this could mean massive wins. For low volatility machines, it’s often better to bet lower and take the slow but steady approach in search of that one huge jackpot.
8 – check the pay tables
When selecting a slot machine, it’s always a good idea to check and compare the pay tables (tip – this can give you an idea of a machine’s volatility). Each slot machine is unique and comes with its own set of pay tables. The variations might surprise you and can make a huge difference to your bankroll over time.
At planet 7 casino, the slots pay tables can be found in the help section of each game, which will explain the pay out on special features like wilds, and scatters as well. Putting in the time to do your homework before you play can dramatically increase the odds in your favor and line your pockets far quicker than a haphazard, random approach.
9 – practice by playing for free
Without a doubt, the best way to test your strategy and to learn how to win at slots is to practice by playing for free. Planet 7 offers the option of playing for free with fake money on all its slot machines, which means you can put the above theories into practice without having to lose anything. This presents a fantastic way to study pay tables, game features and multipliers before you put real money on the table. I always play a game for free before putting down money to get an idea of how the features work. Free spins, bonus rounds and multipliers vary greatly by machine, making free play practice a great way to understand the odds of a particular machine or set of machines.
10 – watch for special bonus offers
A great way to expand your bankroll is to jump on special bonus offers that pop up from time to time. Casinos often offer seasonal bonuses, or bonuses designed to get you back into the game if you haven’t played at a particular casino for a while. Sometimes these offers seem to come out of nowhere thanks to the internal acquisition and retention strategy of the casino’s marketing department. Keep your eyes peeled, as these are usually time sensitive offers but can be truly phenomenal.
Special promotions can center around a new game launch, the season, or special events like the super bowl, world cup or march madness and often include free spins, free chips or bonuses. To keep your ear to the ground regarding special offers it’s advisable to sign up with the casino to receive their marketing emails. This will allow you to turn that $30 deposit into an impressive bankroll, extending your play time and chances of hitting it big.
All said, an effective real money slots strategy is essential if you genuinely want to increase your chances of winning at what otherwise appears a random game. Take advantage of bonuses and special offers, do your homework and study the pay tables to discover how to win at slots. Selecting the right slot machines and betting well can make the difference and increase your chances of a life changing slots win!
So, let's see, what we have: knowing how to pick a winning slot machine is not easy. Use these slots tips to find loose slots and get better chances to win REAL MONEY when you play. At how to win a casino slot machine
