- Money handling: performs money-handling transactions such as paying jackpots, making change, or exchanging coupons for guests in compliance with procedures. May be required to reconcile slot wallets. Completes verification paperwork for jackpot payouts.

Casino cashiers work in casinos handling money, chips and managing paperwork, which requires mathematical and cash handling abilities. No postsecondary education is required, and training is on-the-job. State licensing is required of all casino employees.

Casino cashiers may be referred to as gaming cage workers, cage cashiers, booth cashiers or gaming change persons. They work in an area of a casino known as a cage, which is the casino's center of commerce where money, casino chips and paperwork are circulated. Training is done on the job, but most employers want someone with a high school diploma or the equivalent, and previous experience in a cash handling job may be beneficial. Casino employees must hold a state license, which calls for a background check and a drug test.

Casino cashiers are responsible for carrying out a variety of transactions in a casino and handling any required paperwork. Those who work in a cage exchange tokens, tickets and chips for cash. Others work in a booth and cash checks, process credit card advances and process wire transfers. All casino cashiers sell casino chips, tokens or tickets. They may also perform credit checks and check credit references for those wanting to open credit accounts. In addition, casino cashiers must balance the books at the end of every shift and report large transactions to the internal revenue service (IRS).
Casino cashier requirements
Casino cashiers don't have any minimum education requirements, but many employers prefer job candidates who have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. Casino cashiers typically receive on-the-job training where they learn company procedures, gaming regulations and gaming procedures.
All gaming workers need to obtain a license for employment. Requirements for licensure include a background investigation, drug test and photo identification. There may also be age and residency requirements, which can vary by state.

Sycuan casino to hire over 700 for property expansion
In southern california, the sycuan casino announced this week that it has begun hiring for more than 700 new positions for its $226 million el cajon hotel and resort expansion. The casino will look to fill a range of new positions including those in the food and beverage, casino and hotel divisions.
Hiring efforts for the san diego county facility will begin today, thursday, september 20, 2018, with a job fair to be held from 1pm to 4pm at the east county career center located at 924 E main st in el cajon.
A series of job fairs will be hosted by sycuan casino throughout the remainder of 2018 and into the coming year. Hiring managers will be present at many of the coming job fairs and will conduct on-site interviews and make on-the-spot job offers to qualified candidates for positions in specific departments. Individuals interested in attending one of the job fairs should bring with them copies of their resume.
Onsite interviewing will be conducted for the following positions:
- Environmental services
- Valet and shuttle drivers
- Guest relations
- Food and beverage
- Slot attendant
- Cage cashier

Transformation begins:
After breaking ground in march 2017, the federally-recognized sycuan band of the kumeyaay nation held a topping-off ceremony for the $226 million expansion of its sycuan casino in may this year.
The effort to transform the 34-year-old venue into a las vegas-style casino resort includes the addition of a twelve-story luxury hotel complete with over 300 guest rooms including over 50 suites, seven restaurants, a 12,000 square foot ballroom, spa and fitness center, 60,000 square feet of additional gaming space to include 2,800 slot machines and over 80 table games, an adjacent 1.5-acre garden and two pools.
The new hotel and resort is reportedly due to open from march 2019.
